There is nothing that stands the test of time better than the little black dress or the LBD as it is commonly referred to. The history about this garment goes back decades! Where it once was only worn by women in mourning for years after a death in the family turned into a fashion statement starting in the 20’s by a the iconic Coco Chanel.
Let’s face it, if you don’t have that fab LBD it’s fine time to get one. There are certainly plenty out there…I saw enough black on the runways in New York for this Spring and going into Fall it made me wonder if designers even knew there were colors out there. And you don’t have to spend a lot of money on one, it just needs to fit which is way more important than the cash in my opinion.
The LBD featured in this post was purchased to wear for the first Austin Fashion Awards in 2009. It is a Ralph Lauren, with lots of stretch and I can wad it up and throw it in the suitcase which I have actually done just to see what happens. Actually nothing happens…it’s knit and doesn’t wrinkle.
I have paired it with my funky leather biker jacket, with tights and boots, with hair up and down and with all kinds of jewelry. The big accessory change for this dress are my shoes. I am giddy with excitement to have found these “in season” Jimmy Choo shoes at a local consignment shop. I just love them. Yes, shoes make a man and it made this woman feel fantastic!
I always feel great and confident in this dress and hope it lasts another few years. When I had my husband choose between the LBD and another dress to wear to the Top Austin Model Event, he hands down picked the black one. The man has taste!
